The EPA Says the Honda Fit EV Is the Most Efficient in Its Class

The Honda Fit EV will be here on Long Island before you know it - and with it, an EPA-calculated range of 82 miles on a single charge, and as much as 118 MPGe. That officially makes it the most efficient EV available to drivers around the United States.

Other than a tailpipe-free mode of transportation, what else can you expect from the Fit EV? Well, to start with, it's powered by a 92kW high-density coaxial electric motor producing 188 lb-ft of torque. When you compare that to the gasoline powered Fit at 106 lb-ft of torque, that's a pretty mighty little EV.

It also comes standard with a three-mode drive system, which means you can keep it in ECON mode to get the most out of your battery, or switch it into SPORT for more power on the highway. Keep it in normal mode for a careful balance of both. In ECON mode, you can expect the range of the Fit EV to increase by as much as 17 percent.

Of course, the leading technology in the cabin has to match the technology under the hood, right? Right. Which is exactly why Honda has included a standard navigation system that can even help you find the nearest charging station. The floor-mounted gear selector might look like your regular gear selector, but you'll notice an extra gear, "B." In this position, the regenerative braking technology takes control, and is perfect for going down large hills where your vehicle will slow itself and recharge the battery at the same time.

Sounds like a pretty neat little car, wouldn't you say?

Well if you want one, you better be on the ball - Honda only has plans to produce 1,100 for the U.S. market this year and more in 2013. When it arrives here at Apple Honda, it will carry a starting price of $36,625 with a lease agreement around $399/month.

That said, be sure to stay tuned with us for more EV news and updates! Or, check out the original Honda Fit in our showroom at 1375 Route 58 Riverhead, NY 11901. It's not electric, but it still boasts up to 35 miles to the gallon on the highway.
